The other day my friend Barbie called me to say that Handsome Nerd isn’t bringing a date to the wedding. I didn’t know whether to feel happy, smug, sympathetic (okay empathetic because I don’t have a date either) or what over this news. Indifferent?
Indifferent would have been awesome. But I was definitely completely notably not indifferent.

Most of Ken’s friend aren’t bringing dates. My maid of honor is bringing a female friend as her date.

Having wasted too much time pining over some asshole myself, I can assure you that the indifference comes eventually.
But it’s a process that can’t be rushed. I found that *not* trying so hard to be indifferent; accepting instead of denying the fact that I had strong feelings for the asshole (despite my better judgement) made it easier to get over.
We can’t control our hearts unfortunately. And trying to only makes them more obstreperous. Sigh…

Vix, I think HandsomeNerd is gay.

Barbie–but you also recently informed me that I will be sitting at a table full of COUPLES. Boo. How am I supposed to get any action when I’m surrounded by unavailable guys?
Maxine–good advice. Would be easier to follow if I didn’t have to see the bastard again.
Messy–sadly, he is not. Word from Ken is that he is “very very straight, just a dumbass.” And on that one hot night we had, he did not seem to have qualms whatsoever about enjoying my feminine attributes.
But it would be so much easier if he were gay. Ten years from now that’s how I’ll remember it.

again, he could be straight, but you know it means nothing that his male friends say so –and that he had fun with you, excuse me, who wouldn’t
i’m just saying so because i do believe there are soooo many boys that are still in full denial… but whatever, i might be a victim of the gay conspiracy, too –i have my reasons, since i live in new york city!! also, my gaydar started beeping immediately after reading your posts… well, if i were you, i’d keep this in mind at the wedding…
